Eid travel: book early or wait for a last-minute deal?
Eid weeks are the busiest of the year for holiday homes in Egypt. When to book, how to keep your plans flexible, and when waiting actually pays off.

Every Eid, the same thing happens. Half of Cairo decides to go to the Red Sea or the North Coast at the same time, and the best places are gone weeks before. Those who wait either pay more for what's left or end up with a place nobody else wanted.
But booking early has its own risk: plans change, and nobody wants to lose money on a trip they can't take. Here's how to get the best of both.
When are the Eids in 2027?
The Eid holidays follow the Islamic calendar, which moves about 11 days earlier every year, and the exact dates depend on the moon sighting. Roughly:
- Eid al-Fitr 2027: around 9–10 March
- Eid al-Adha 2027: around 16–17 May
Add the official holiday days the government announces around them, and the weekends next to them, and you get the long breaks everyone books at once. Other busy weeks to plan for: the mid-year school break, Sham El-Nessim, Christmas and New Year on the Red Sea, and July and August on the North Coast.
Why booking early usually wins for Eid
- Choice. The places with the best views, private pools and the right number of bedrooms for a big family go first.
- Price. Hosts often set higher custom prices for Eid weeks, and some raise them again as the dates get closer and the calendar fills up.
- Early-bird discounts. Some hosts on Guestify offer an early-bird discount for bookings made a few months before check-in. If a listing has one, the price you see already includes it.
- Less stress. Finding a place for eight people two days before Eid is nobody's idea of a holiday.
How to book early without losing flexibility
The fear with booking early is cancelling later. Three things help:
1. Pick the right cancellation policy
Every listing shows its cancellation policy before you book:
- Flexible: full refund if you cancel at least 24 hours before check-in.
- Moderate: full refund if you cancel at least 5 days before check-in.
- Strict: full refund only if you cancel within 48 hours of booking (and check-in is at least 14 days away); after that, 50% back if you cancel at least 7 days before check-in.
Use the free cancellation filter to see flexible listings only. Many hosts choose strict for Eid weeks; that's fine if your plans are firm, and you still get 48 hours to change your mind after booking. Our guide to cancellation policies has worked examples.
2. Split the payment
For instant-book stays booked at least 14 days ahead, you can often choose to pay half now and the rest later: the second half is charged to your card automatically about two weeks before check-in. You lock in the place without paying everything months in advance. The checkout page shows whether a stay qualifies and when the second payment will be taken.
3. Check the total before you book
Guestify charges guests no service fee, so the price you see at checkout (nights plus any cleaning fee) is what you pay. Compare totals, not just the nightly price.
When waiting can pay off
Last-minute booking isn't always a mistake:
- Small groups and couples have more options late, because the big places go first but studios and one-bedroom flats often stay free.
- Last-minute discounts. Some hosts offer a discount for bookings made a few days before check-in, to fill nights that would otherwise stay empty.
- Mid-week stays around Eid are often easier to find than the long weekend itself.
- Quieter destinations. If El Gouna and Sahel are full, look a little further: Sahl Hasheesh, Makadi, Marsa Alam, or Ain Sokhna for a short trip.
But for a family, a big group or a specific place: book early.
A simple plan for the next Eid
- Two to three months before: decide where and with whom. Shortlist a few places and save them to a wishlist.
- As soon as the dates are clear: book, preferably with a flexible or moderate policy, and use split payment if it's offered.
- Two weeks before: the second half of a split payment is charged. Check your card has enough limit.
- A few days before: message your host to confirm the arrival time and check-in steps.
Plan early, keep it flexible, and enjoy the holiday instead of the search.
